Burnout is real and you may just be working on autopilot and don’t even know it. This was me for a while until I ran smack dab into a brick wall, quite literally might I add!
Don’t be that guy… Here are 10 signs that you may be experiencing burnout and may need to step back to reset.
- Chronic fatigue: Feeling exhausted and lacking energy, even after a good night’s sleep. It may progress to a sense of physical and emotional depletion.
- Insomnia: Difficulty falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early. It can lead to poor sleep quality and perpetuate the cycle of exhaustion.
- Forgetfulness and difficulty concentrating: Burnout can cause cognitive difficulties, such as memory lapses and an inability to focus on tasks.
- Increased illness: Frequent colds or other physical ailments can be a sign of burnout, as prolonged stress can weaken the immune system.
- Loss of appetite or changes in eating habits: Burnout may lead to changes in appetite, such as skipping meals or overeating.
- Anxiety and irritability: Burnout can manifest in increased anxiety, mood swings, and irritability, making it difficult to maintain healthy relationships with others.
- Depression: Burnout often leads to feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and helplessness, which can progress into clinical depression if not addressed.
- Loss of motivation and lack of interest in tasks: A decrease in enthusiasm and motivation for work or personal activities is a common sign of burnout.
- Detachment and isolation: Burnout often leads to a desire to withdraw from others and disengage from social situations.
- Decreased satisfaction and sense of accomplishment: As burnout progresses, there may be feelings of inadequacy and a loss of satisfaction in personal and professional accomplishments.
If you recognize these signs in yourself or someone else, it is essential to address the issue and take steps to recover from burnout. This may involve seeking support from friends, family, or a mental health professional, adjusting schedules and workloads, and prioritizing self-care activities.
