Recently, I found myself watching old clips of Master P talking about business, success, failure and the mentality that carried him through his journey. That curiosity led me to something he put into the world almost two decades ago: his 2007 book Guaranteed Success. The foundation of the book is simple—never give up. But what caught my attention wasn’t just the message. It was the date. 2007. Here I am reading those words in 2026 with nearly 20 years of hindsight that Master P didn’t have when he wrote them. We can see what happened next. We can see the continued businesses, opportunities, setbacks, reinventions and evolution of Percy Miller. And suddenly those words hit differently. The philosophy existed before all the evidence did.

That made me think about my own journey. I started seriously pursuing entrepreneurship around 2012, and if I showed you the entire road between then and now, it wouldn’t look like one of those clean motivational timelines where everything keeps moving upward. I’ve had businesses work and businesses fail. I’ve made good money and I’ve been broke. I’ve had places to live and I’ve lost places to live. I’ve rebuilt my life more than once. And we have these phrases we tell ourselves when things fall apart: It wasn’t a loss; it was a lesson. It’s a stepping stone. Everything happens for a reason. I believe those things, but here’s the part we don’t talk about enough: after enough “lessons” back-to-back, you start wondering if maybe you’re just losing. You start asking yourself questions you don’t want to admit out loud. Am I really built for this? Am I actually going somewhere? Or am I just really good at starting over?

The strange thing is that somehow I keep waking up and trying again. Something doesn’t work, I adjust. Something falls apart, I rebuild. I lose money, I figure out how to make some more. I get discouraged, disappear for a minute, then eventually another idea starts moving around in my head and I’m back at it. That’s why Master P’s book hit me differently. He couldn’t have known exactly where he would be almost 20 years after publishing it. He could believe in his philosophy, but he couldn’t see all the evidence that would eventually sit behind it. Sometimes the evidence comes after the belief. Maybe that’s what perseverance really is: continuing to put bricks down when you’re standing too close to the construction to see what the building is becoming.

And then I thought about my own books. I’ve written down my philosophies. I’ve documented things I’ve learned. I’ve put my thoughts into words and released them into the world. And you know what? Some of that stuff just sits there. 😂 Nobody is beating down the door to buy everything Kenny Hopkins has ever written. But who decided it has to matter today? What if somebody searches my name 20 years from now? What if they find an old book, an old blog, or this exact video? They’ll be reading the words of a man who didn’t know what happened next. Maybe they’ll know about businesses I haven’t started yet, accomplishments I can’t imagine yet, people I haven’t met yet and opportunities that haven’t even presented themselves. They’ll have something I don’t have right now: the ending to this chapter.

So maybe I need to stop judging an unfinished story by the chapter I’m currently standing in. Maybe you do too. The business that isn’t moving yet, the book nobody bought, the video nobody watched, the idea people laughed at, the setback that made you question yourself—none of us knows what those things will mean when viewed through another 10 or 20 years of life. That’s what this Master P moment reminded me of. Maybe success isn’t about believing you know how the story ends. Maybe it’s having enough faith to keep writing it. So I’m going to keep writing, keep filming, keep building, keep failing, keep learning and keep putting my ideas into the world. Because if somebody comes looking for my story 20 years from now, I want there to be one hell of an archive waiting for them.

KEEP FOLLOWING THE STORY
If this connected with you, share it with somebody who’s in the middle of rebuilding and questioning whether they should keep going. And if you’re in that season yourself, don’t judge your entire story from where you’re standing today.
